Tony Jameson, Director of necc

Tony Jameson has been the necc Director since it was established in 1997 and is an Independent Change Consultant focusing mainly on the achievement of strategic change and organisational transformation. He specialises in work at the boundaries of organisations and works at an individual, group or whole system level depending on the organisation's requirements. He is a frequent speaker at national and regional events.

His work includes strategy/policy development and major change in several health and social care systems, including several health action zones, assisting a University to respond to a new environment following restructuring, identifying strengths and barriers to change in HAZ's, advising the Department of Health on policy in relation to legislative changes at the boundaries between the Health and Local Authority systems, and the establishment of a Development Network for Health Action Zones. He is a specialist in running whole system events and has experience of working with strategic change in industry

Previous work has included benchmarking, the facilitation of the successful bid for the largest first wave Health Action Zone, the reorganisation of hospital and community health services in a District in Scotland, Primary Care Development, and advising Ministers and the Department of Health on the early development of policy in relation to health and NHS services.

He retired from the NHS in 1997 where he had been the Chief Executive of County Durham Health Authority. During his time in County Durham he merged five Health Authorities to create one of the largest in the country, oversaw the (ultimately) successful achievement of major Private Finance Initiatives, and established one of the earliest devolved Locality Commissioning systems which involved GPs, Voluntary Organisations, Social Services and local people.

Prior to joining the NHS he worked for 20 years in Social Services in Newcastle upon Tyne. He trained as a social worker and ran both Field, Day Care and Residential Services.

He is a member of the Council of St. Oswald's Hospice in Newcastle upon Tyne and a Trustee of Tynedale Leisure.
